The Cornish American Heritage Society (CAHS) is holding its 17th Gathering of Cornish Cousins in Wisconsin in 2014, and Celtic Institute of the Midwest will be there! “Mousehole Meets Milwaukee: A Cornish Gathering On The Waters” will take place August 13-17, 2014 at the Zelazo Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Events will include workshops on various aspects of Cornish history, culture, and genealogy, a bardic ceremony, a pasty supper, tours, vendors, and much more!
The Celtic Institute’s own Benjamin Bruch, himself a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedd, will be attending the Gathering and teaching workshops on Cornish poetry and an introductory class in the Cornish language. Watch this space or follow us on Twitter (@CelticMidwest) for further details including announcements of dates, times, and venues!
The largest Cornish cultural event in North America, the Gathering of Cornish Cousins is held every two years at a different location in the United States or Canada. The 2014 Gathering is being organized by the CAHS in conjunction with the Cornish Society of Greater Milwaukee and the Center for Celtic Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While in town for the Gathering, you can also pay a visit to Milwaukee’s annual Irish Fest, which will be held on August 14-17, 2014.
If you’re planning to attend the Gathering, you can download a registration form here. Information for presenters is available at the CAHS website CousinJack.org, and a provisional schedule has been posted here. We hope to see you there!
